What does Kätlin consider important when teaching dance?
’It is very important to me that my students feel comfortable in class and get on well with each other.
I try to get to know them as well as possible and it is vital to me that they develop mentally, socially and physically. Dance classes need to be both challenging and varied.
The styles I am most passionate about are lyrical jazz, contemporary and show dance.
I love dance that speaks to the dancer and the audience, telling a story in interesting, new, unexpected ways. In children's and young people's dances, I place great emphasis on the age appropriateness of the music, lyrics and movements. An enjoyable dance is one where idea and execution are in balance, where costume and lighting support the dance, where everything forms a coherent whole. I appreciate when clever solutions are found in choreography, levels and lines.’
